Skaramine brought this problem to my attention; creating new threads in the Hardboiled forum was accidentally set to "staff only." 
It's fixed now. Let me know if you encounter similar problems--each forum has to be set individually, so it's possible in my mad rush to get the site running I goofed somewhere else, too.
