What a thoroughly boring and pretentious piece of drek The Libertine was, squandering a great cast and 120 minutes of a Friday night. Although, there are a few choice pieces of dialogue, as evidenced by my new signature... "You must acquire the trick of ignoring those who do not like you. In my experience, they fall into two camps: the stupid and the envious. The stupid will like you in five years time--the envious, never." --Johnny Depp, The LibertineI'm a sucker for period piece costume dramas, from ancient Rome to knights to swashbucklers, but The Libertine just did not deliver the goods. 'Twas done in by a bad script, bad lighting, bad direction, bad editing, even laugh-inducing syphilis make-up... So much potential squandered. Such a pity! I liked Quills much better.
