Just finished the Second Draft! Woohoo! Rock on! It's 336 pages, laid out in 11 pt. Garamond as a 9x6 perfect bound (trade paperback/softcover). Or, if you prefer, 128,288 words. ;D

Third Draft underway... A quick polish, adding in a few extra bits here and there, punching up chapter endings, spellchecking, etc. Should be done very shortly...

After pulling an all day and all-nighter (and part of the day before), I'm pleased to say the Third Draft is now complete, and the novel is finally ready to test-read by unsuspecting victims... I anticipate one more polish (an unheard of for me Fourth Draft) based on reader feedback, then I can call the text done and start pestering the graphic artist for the cover and promo art...

Got the first batch of notes back from those who read the 2nd draft; they loved it and had no major changes, just a lot of little things, some nitpicky, some not. Going through Deathbreed's 3rd Draft now with a fine-tooth comb based on their feedback. That means the 4th Draft has begun... I'll do a 5th Draft, just to be safe, and incorporate 3rd and 4th draft reader feedback. Hopefully, I won't need to do a 6th Draft, as I'd like to get moving on other issues, like the book's release, lol, and starting another novel. Hang in there--the end is in sight!

Ugh. So many little nitpicky tweaks to make from reader feedback, most of which I agree with. Despite all the extra work, it's time well spent as it's making the book better and better. So nice to have readers catch some little detail I might have missed, such as who's got the car keys, lol. Spent all day on the 4th draft and am only up to Chapter 6 (the book has 30 chapters, plus a prologue and an epilogue). Looks like I'll be up all night at this rate and still won't be done...

Stayed up all night and got the 4th draft done through chapter 8... Between the 2nd and 4th draft, I've added 10 pages to the book just in the first 110 pages alone.

4th Draft, Chapter 11 completed! 142,000 words... EDIT--Oops. Actually completed chapter 11 today after I realized I'd missed some of the editor's notes.

4th Draft, Chapter 12 completed! Only 18 more chapters to go...
The prologue was cut, but I anticipated that--it was always an experimental afterthought. It also saved me six odd pages, LOL.

Are big cuts, like the prolog or alternate endings, ever going to be made available, like deleted scenes in a movie? Maybe for free online if you can't fit them into the book?

Good question. I know they did that with Robert E. Howard's CONAN collector's editions, so it's not exactly unheard-of. Let me think about it...

Took a little time off for other projects but am back on it now. I'm nearly done with the 4th draft, chapter 14...

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I got sidetracked by several edit-intensive custom video projects--the new EMMA STEEL (almost done) and BADLY BEATEN BLONDE (an S&M prison camp flick). These are probably the two best customs I've ever produced! Anyway, the good news on DEATHBREED: A Zombie Novel is that the 4th Draft, Chapter 14, is finally done! This latest edit of the middle of the book took a lot out of me, LOL, but Chapter 14 represents the last chunk that had a ton of revisions to be considered. Looking over my editor's notes for the next 200 or so pages I'm not seeing anything close to the same level of work involved. Mostly just odds and ends to tidy up, although I'm sure she snuck a few doozies in there somewhere that will require a bunch of brainpower to slog through... I'm still hopeful (almost positive!) that the 5th draft will be the Final Draft. The manuscript currently stands at a staggering 144,500 words!
