DEATHBREED: OFFICIAL FAQ
Updated February 17, 2007
Q: What editions of your novel are available and what are the special features?
Todd: Deathbreed was published on January 15, 2007, in both a standard and signed 6x9 Perfectbound Trade Paperback (softcover), as well as a 6x9 Casewrap Hardcover. The hardcover is a Signed & Numbered Limited Edition--only 666 copies will be printed!
All editions of the novel include an exclusive interview with me and a preview of Deathbreed 2 as a special bonus.
Q: How is Deathbreed different from other zombie novels?
Todd: The dead reanimate as super-charged killing machines then degenerate within hours into the traditional shamblers, creating a varied threat. Even with the mix of fast and slow zombies, the book plays by the classic "Romero rules," in that zombies infect those they bite, can only be killed by destroying the brain, and are essentially mindless eating machines.
The zombies are plague-based in origin, and although several theories are put forward to explain them, the reader is allowed to make up their own mind. There are no talking zombies, zombie animals, other types of undead, or supernatural material of any kind in the story.
The book strongly emphasizes character development and social commentary over mindless violence and gore (although when there is gore, it's super-gory!). The novel begins a few days before the zombie apocalypse hits, giving you time to get to know the characters in their normal daily lives.
Deathbreed is shocking, funny, and playfully twisted--venom drips off every page, making it bitter brain-food for nihilists, sadists and maniacs! It is a pitch-black zombie noir, not for the squeamish or easily offended. It is as utterly unique as it is evil. Enjoy!
